DISCUSSION
ACTION/FOLLOW-UP

Alumni Board Vice President Vic Caricato opened the meeting at 12 PM November 11, 2018

The minutes of the August 5 2018 board meeting were read and approved.

Active Chapter Report
Cole Harris, active chapter president

Cole said that we have 12 initiates lined up.

Call presented the list of new officers for January. The new president will be Ryan green.

À recommendation was made to have actives on housing committee to facilitate filling the house.

Actives are to be recruited to serve on the housing committee. Their goal is to help fill the house.
Scholarship report
Vic Caricato
Vic recommended the scholarship program be continued.
A motion to provide three $1,000 scholarships per semester was approved.
Finance Report
Chuck Hvala
·        Chuck reported that property taxes on the new house are likely going to go up significantly. John Bokum recommended we line someone up to appeal any increases.
·       Chuck reported our level of savings for improvements to the house and the amount in our Vanguard account.

Fundraising
John Bokum '72

John Bokum was appointed chairman of the Capital Fund Campaign.
·       John recommended kicking off the fundraising program in February. He feels the goal should be $80,000 but doesn't want to announce the amount and give it a hard number. We need approximately $25,000 for furniture and we would like to build up our account so that we can continue the scholarship program at past levels.
·       John Bokum said that John Slater wants to contact members of Phi Theta and the Western Club to solicit contributions.
·       John says we need a marketing plan developed quickly. He hopes to find a brother with marketing experience or perhaps a student majoring in marketing.

Ideas include the matching funds approach. Here one brother offers to match funds donated by another. We may also want to use a plaque with donation categories to display in the house. Online fundraising is another technique we might want to use.

John says there is a chapter history piece. We should find it and spiff it up to use for fundraising. John wants a photo of the actives in front of the house with the Theta Chi Banner to use in fundraising.

The fundraising campaign is to begin in February.

New house report
Terry Austin '69

Terry reported that he will move on remodeling of the house. He has contacted several contractors and heard nothing back. Brother Brad Thompson lives in Macomb. Terry will contact Brad to see if he can help with identifying contractors.

Terry will attend the zoning variance meeting. The local government must approve our house for Fraternity housing.

Cole said that $25 per month is doable for house dues for brothers who do not live in the house.

It is recommended that the alumni board pay bills and collect rents.

A fire pit was mentioned. It was recommended the actives secure it as a project.

The alumni board will pay bills and collect rents for the house.
House Liaisons
Bob Shoemaker reported that we have 14 ready to live in the house both semesters of next school year. We have five additional who want to live in the fall only. We have two grad students that may be able to live in the house. The max room in the house is 24 Brothers.
